Harvesting Poplar Bark Siding in the Woods - Peeling Logs
Просмотров 275 тыс.Год назад
Poplar bark siding was something I discovered when Googling for information regarding the use of poplar logs for cabin building. As soon as I saw it I wanted to do it. I quickly made up reasons in my head of why I need to cut down a poplar tree and set out into the woods to find a tree....mostly looking for larger strain trees clear of branches as high as possible. This video shows my first exp...

My books- www.thehomesteadcraftsman.com/p/blog-page_77.html Hi Guys, long time no see. I've been busy with a lot of projects but have filmed some stuff along the way and finally getting around to editing. I'm going to keep the videos simple so that I actually get them done. This video shows how I load large logs onto a trailer alone. I'm trying to get back into posting on this channel. I've bee...
FELLING TREES in the WOODLOT - OAK and POPLAR
Просмотров 10 тыс.2 года назад
I went for one but got two. In this video I saw down a tall poplar and while at it take down a large dead standing oak. One was easy to get but the other was much more involved, while it may look simple to drag it out with a tractor, it's a bit unnerving maneuvering a tractor through the woods on uneven ground. The risk of rolling the tractor is high along with other dangers.

Nice job. Next window however take your router or saw and cut a drip edge channel on the bottom of the outer sill. Thanks for the video and good luck with your home.
What machine are you using ??
Was ripping EXACTLY the same as you. Had my blade pinched, saw did get kickback and jumped out of rail. and did cut off my pinky at right hand.
I don't doubt that. His hand resting behind the saw like that near the end of the cut is completely unnecessary and just asking for trouble. Best wishes on your recovery!
Thanks for the video. I'm getting ready to do the same thing with the same model helper springs on my XJ.
This interests me. I have a fair amount of Poplar and wanting to find uses for it. You mentioned you will be milling the log for lumber. Is it going to be used structurally? Poplar seems very light in weight when dry and just can't see it as a structural choice but you seem very knowledgeable on the species and wanted to ask. Liked and subbed. Thanks.
Thank you for the video! That was very helpful.
Thank you for video! Useful for me bacause i wanna install bark on my tree houses roof!
Saw an early 1960's AMF DeWalt Power Shop radial arm saw on marketplace about 20 miles north of me today for $35 the guy claims everything works on. Thing is, I already have a table saw and a miter saw, so I don't really know what I'd do with one of those. A friend of mine had one back in the '80's that he seemed to like a lot, but that's the only one I'd ever even actually seen. are there any advantages to having one of these as opposed to having my table saw and my miter saw? Edit: I went ahead and bought the saw. I looked at harbor freight's press and it was $169. Saw a 6 ton press on Amazon for $70.00 so will probably get it instead. The finish is a little rough but not terrible. I may be able to buff out the surface rust in the paint, but its cabinet will need a heavy sanding and re-spray. The cabinet is a DeWalt as well that was sold separately in their 1958 catalogue for $69.95 according to the paperwork the guy had with it and the box frame of the saw fits it like a glove. It will also need the 14 gauge sjoow wire as the original has a big spiral shaped crack running the length of the cord where it comes out of the arm. I think ripping on this saw will actually be safer than on my table saw as the table saw has no safety features whatsoever, but the DeWalt has the kickback pawl which I will use along with a pair of board buddies.
Hermoso
That saw though!! I have the Holtzffotma G070. Love it! What chain do you run?
$280 🤯. It's $480 now
I love going back and watching the old videos. Youve come far pilgrim.
Nice video.
And what a channel it has become.
Thank you! 🙌🏽
Just curious: Are those glasses protective or corrective?
Thank you! I had to replace the window in an old barn that blew out in a storm. It might have been oil based, but it was so old that most of the paint was pealing off. So I sanded it down really well (yes, I used a mask, and maybe it was even lead based paint from 100 years ago, so I probably should have used an N95), then I used water based primer (2 coats) then latex outdoor paint (2 coats). Bought the DAP 33 for the glazing, and after reading the instructions realized I couldn't use it because it was for oil based paint. So after several other searches on what to use, I found your video and will do the DAP latex glazing and give it a try. I appreciate the video, it gives me more confidence, since I've never done this before. I already had my points in before watching this video. I had purchased points at the hardware store, but found my Dad's old points from years ago. I guess he did this himself too, but he's not around so I can't for his advice. Another video suggested I place a small bead behind the glass to seat it, so I'll do this too. Keep up the good work, I'm going to use your technique!
Can i ordered one Atack 14?
Thanks!
Awesome 😊

Dude I bought a 371 Stockman to whittle with the edge retention is unlike anything I have laid hands on. I also bought a 110 and a 112 Ranger Sport. IN ONE WEEK I cut myself on everyone of them.
By the way I have peeled many as a kid ,as well as locust . Both locust and popular peel easy
All of the modern nuts.out there building camping shelters, don't know this was the old mountain men's go to material. It makes an excellent roof, if you use smaller trees and turn two inside up and one inside down. With a slight slop it will last a long time
Impressive!
Excellent explanation, way to go
What are your thoughts ten years later? I've had mine for ten years and it's my only saw. I've been happy with it. Very convenient to roll around. The fence? It's good for most stuff, and I have done a little bit of finish work without trouble. All in all an indispensable tool I've liked owning. No issues to speak of considering what it is.
Oh, and I don't use the tape but mine hasn't broken yet! I always just measure blade to fence for all of my cuts.
I have followed your channel for over ten years and today I see this and am happy and encouraged to see you are a believer. Keep up the good work!
The first thing you need to do is check if the blade is indeed exactly parallel to the track. I had this issue when I trimmed my splinter guard only to find out the blade was slightly out of alignment 😢
why would you mess up a perfectly good square nail to make a + sign?
For those of us who don't have a hill of decomposed sawdust nearby: If you have a compost bin with a built-in ventilation, you can layer your kitchen scraps and lawn clippings with sawdust. This speeds up its aging and results in amazing rich but airy soil that you won't find at stores.
Nice controlled clean up.
Thanks from Lakeview Oregon
An old kitchen stove side of the house chimney. Doing a tar paper Tin-Roof and it was in the way and had never dealt with one, your video helped.
you need to improve the sound. Thank you friend from Vietnam
Your future self gets a sawmill. 🙂
A very nice thing to do. This world needs the Cross. ✝️
Great work! 2 questions for you..Shouldn't the ground and neutral be bonded since it is a main panel? And why a 6x6 and not 4x4? Worth the extra money?
What is the name of the thing on which it sits and works
10 years late to this party but love this design, nice work
1 dollar 89 cents ? wow
Love your videos. Thanks for sharing!!!
Still got this house? DId you make videos on it?

Beautiful boat! I really want to build my own soon!! I was wondering if a few layers of epoxy resin would give a better scratching protection.. I guess I'm going to try..
Great master! Thanks a lot!
Nice and clever design , great looking and great informative video. Thanks for sharing.
Привет, красивый щелкунчик 😃
Which is the difference between this copy and the original Randall? Simple: the price! The copy is worth a couple of hundred dollars while the original about five hundred dollars plus a five years waiting list. If you want one on the the spot be prepared to spend till about one thousand US dollars! But it's also a positive side of Randall knives: they are an investment asset which gains about 10% every year. The copy on the contrary will loose value every year!
Awesome review. Subscribed.
